PIEV THEORY


The process of applying brakes in any situation is not an instantaneous phenomenon while it is a time consuming phenomenon in which psychological process is involved called as Perception, Intellection, Emotion and Volition as shown in figure.
PIEV THEORY


PEIV theory splits the raction time of driver into 4 components-

(i) Perception- It is the time required for the sensation received by the ear or eyes to be transmitted to the brain through nervous system and spinal chord.

(ii) Intellection- It is the time required for the understanding the situation.

(iii) Emotion- It is the time elapsed during emotional sensation disturbance such as fear, anger or any emotional feelings with reference to the situation.

(iv) Volition- It is the time taken for final reaction.
