1. Based on accuracy desired

  • Plane Survey - surface of the earth assume to flat not curve one.
  • Geodetic Survey - curvature of earth is taken order to have higher degree.

2. Based on Place of Survey

  • Land Survey - which is done on land.
  •  Hydrographic Survey - which is done on water bodies. example- Stream, Sea, Ponds etc.
  • Underground Survey - Underground surveying is the survey operations performed beneath the surface of the earth in connection with tunneling, exploration and construction in subterranean passageways. It is quite different from surveying on the surface.
  • Areal survey- This survey is about above the ground by taking aerial photographs with camera fitted to Airplanes, Helicopter etc. 

3. Based on Instrumental used 

  • Chain Survey, Traverse Survey, Leveling, Tacheometry survey, Plain tabling, Triangulation survey, EDM survey, Total Station survey etc.

4. Based on Purpose 

  • Geological survey, Geographical survey, Engineering survey, Defence survey, Mine survey, Route Survey etc.

PRINCIPLE OF SURVEY

  • Work from whole to part.
  • Chose the method of survey that is most suitable for the purpose.
  • Record the field data carefully.
